It was late on the evening of the third day and they were Oh so tired! They had treked hurriedly along the
river bank road, knowing they must be well beyond the borders of the GO Valley before it vanished. And along about
dusk, they saw the twinkling lights of what appeared to be a gathering of human dwellings. "Here", they thought, "we'll
be safe in the crowds for the time being, until we can find a corner for our very own.
While they were sitting on the catching their breath and deciding what to do next,
there was a rustling in the bushes....and out popped a little grey mouse.... ![]() . He was
holding a bag of what looked like seeds and berries in his paws, and muttering softly to himself: "I am SO Silly!...Oh me Oh my, I am a Silly mouse, indeed!"Sarah spoke softly..."Hello, little mouse. Do you live near here?" Although the mouse appeared somewhat startled by the appearance of two Gnomes sitting on a in the dark in the middle of
the forest, he just smiled and replied, "Hello you fellows! yup...I'm just on my way back to the BIG HOUSE with
these seeds for my children".Silas spoke up and asked, "The BIG HOUSE? What's that, Mr. Mouse?" The mouse smiled politely and replied, "Just call me Silly, Mr. Gnome..all my friends do" ![]() and he told them of a big dwelling on the edge of the forest, just a hop and a skip away from the city of twinkling lights, where one human lived all alone in many rooms. And beyond the back door, the tangled garden where the fairies lived. He told them of the empty spaces where the elves had their nooks and of the Room of Many Books where he and his family lived in a cozy hole between the walls. Sarah and Silas looked at each other. Imagine! A room with Many Books...and elves and fairies close by... and only one Human! and a garden for their fairie friends. Just Imagine!.... And so it was that Sarah and Silas and Silly journeyed together to the BIG HOUSE at the edge of the wood. Back to Chapter 1 ......
